Your most potent tools when it comes to getting motivated are in your mind. Motivation starts and ends inside you. If you don’t learn how to manage your emotions and your thoughts, you will never get or stay motivated.

The secret to lasting motivation is managing your own emotions and how you feel about things in your subconscious. How do you genuinely feel about cleaning the house? How do you feel about working out? Does it feel like drudgery work? Or are you pepping and ready to go?

Chances are, especially since you are reading this article, you have to really push yourself to do those things. You don’t have to keep forcing yourself day in and day out to do the things you really want to do.

Your power of choice in the moment gives you true freedom. Most people however, don’t choose, they react.

What I mean by reacting is that you don’t clearly choose in the moment, you react in a habitual pattern like many people. For example, if you want to lose weight, they you habitually react by thinking you need to exercise because that is what you have been told and that is what everybody else does.

You have thousands of subconscious habitual reactions that you do every day. The problem is, just because you habitually react doesn’t mean that is the right choice for you. If you are just reacting, then you are not clearly choosing something fitting to your individual needs in the moment. For example, let’s say you have a thyroid problem, would exercise help? Probably not much, but in your reactive state you may habitually exercise to get slow or no results.

So if you want to discover a way to get and stay motivated, then you need to be motivated by a clear choice and a positive choice. A positive choice would be something that energizes you and makes you feel good about yourself. A negative choice is usually a reactive choice, like forcing yourself to work out because you hate your body. Notice the keyword hate, its negative.

Take time to reflect upon your history and observe any reactions and how they have truly served you over time. Do you want to keep repeating history? Clearly not, you want to STAY motivated right!?

You will naturally get and stay motivated when you have clearly made a positive choice to act based on your own individual needs.

You are the only one who understands your life, the time demands, and your needs. If you don’t sit down to asses those things, then you won’t make a positive choice the works for you in the long haul.

Another tip is that you must get brutally honest with yourself when assessing your life. Don’t lie to yourself about why you don’t want to do something. Just admit it, ask yourself why this is the case, and then ask yourself what would change your outlook into a positive point of view.

Once you have done this, the answer will be clear and you will be well on your way to getting and staying motivated no matter what you are trying to do in life.
